Last night Pat and I decided to try out the REVolutionary soup downtown! Knowing that the restaurant is locally owned and operated, we wanted to have a total Charlottesville eating experience… and selfishly I wanted a fun new blog post!
After parking on the outskirts of the downtown mall the rain began and so did our hunt for Rev Soup. I knew it was located on one of the side alleyways, but after a few failed attempts and newly sopping hairdos, we had to whip out the Iphone. We discovered it was hidden in between Christian’s pizza and the downtown movie theater.

Through the use of fresh locally grown foods, each dish has a connection to the Charlottesville community. The ingredients found in Rev Soup meals come from eco-friendly and sustainable farms around the area:
Kite’s Ham: Wolftown, VA- Virginia cured ham
Breadworks: Charlottesville, VA - Sunflower Wheat Bread
Roundabout Farm: Keswick, VA- Arugula and mixed greens
Polyface Farm: Swoope, VA- Chicken, beef, sausage, and eggs
Timbercreek Organics: Charlottesville, VA- Chicken, pork, and beef
Twin Oaks: Louisa, VA- Tofu
Byrd Mill: Ashland, VA- Grits and flour
This list goes on and on and can be found on the restaurants website! I think it is so great that Rev Soup uses all locally grown and cultivated ingredients for their dishes. Central Virginia has the perfect farming landscape... why should we not eat what is grown right in our own backyard?!

While there are many items on the menu that remain the same year-round, Rev Soup also offers seasonal specials that incorporate what is fresh on the local farms. Often the chefs at Rev Soup don’t know what they are getting when they purchase meats and veggies so they have to work under pressure and create a new menu item right then and there… totally on the spot!
All of their soups are made from scratch and change daily. Recently Revolutionary Soup has been serving a lamb curry, tomato basil bisque, classic miso, spicy chicken tortilla, black bean, and loaded potato.
Each wrap, sandwich, and salad is made to order and works to bring in as many local produce as possible!
Last night I had the local pumpkin bisque… perfect for a rainy Charlottesville night! Just read this description, “ local cershaw pumpkins from Esmont, VA, seasoned with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg”. It was AMAZING… and that is all that needs to be said.
So go and try REV SOUP! It's simply wonderful. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is perfect for a quiet night out.
Have a Tremendous Tuesday... and check back soon!
