I have always loved visiting Colonial Williamsburg during the holidays. The homes are decorated, carolers are out singing, and everyone is in full holiday mode. My family and I have gone to Williamsburg year after year during the Christmas season to have a big lunch and spend time with one another in the beautiful town... only located 2 hours from C'ville!
Local residents wander the historical part of town and serenade the visitors with tunes such as Deck the Halls and Joy to the World. They often ask the little children to come around and join in on the fun!
This year we went to the Blue Talon Bistro for a big family lunch. I would say about half of our group ordered the big burger filled with all the right toppings PLUS a fried egg.... think WHITE SPOT....
After lunch we head down Duke of Gloucester Street and spend time looking at the old buildings.
One fun thing about the homes that line the street is how the bottom floor are comprised of shops and the top story are residential spaces. During the holiday season each homeowner decorates their front doors with homemade holiday wreaths. The town holds a competition and ranks the wreaths giving out first, second, and third place awards.
I just love how people are dressed up in Colonial costumes and horse drawn carriages are driven up and down the gravel road.
We even saw the most beautiful Santa Clause. Right in the center of the Market Square, Santa was offering candy canes to all the little children who wished to share their Christmas wish...
On your way out of town stop by the local candy store! Just in time for some sweet treats on the drive home. My favorite is the almond butter crunch!
So spend a day outside of Charlottesville this holiday season and head down 64 East to Colonial Williamsburg. It will be a wonderful time!
Have a Magnificent Monday... and check back soon!
